Pewter vase cm 39x21x27,5 h, limited edition of 33 pieces made on request. Vases obtained by melting sheets of pewter (alloy of tin, antimony and copper), modeled, soldered and polished by hand.
"Produced in limited numbers, these vases were modeled by recalling the metaphor of the tree. They are objects that present themselves as table architectures, which show the size and measure of the gesture and the hands that shaped them."
Mario Botta
Unmistakable examples of Mario Botta's style and poetics, these thirteen vases present themselves as presences of extraordinary communicative power in the contemporary home, according to an idea of living linked to the quality of the objects that populate it, particularly dear to the Numa project.
«When I read these words that Mario Botta had written for the presentation of the vases he designed, I understood that I could find in him the harmony I was looking for to be able to create, with pewter, the works he had designed. The collection designed by Mario Botta is composed of 13 vases, 6 of which are now being produced by Numa in a limited edition of 33 pieces. Each vase is obtained from sheets of pewter melted, shaped and welded by hand. It is finished by hand with brushing and polishing operations. The thirteen vases that we are now presenting are presences of extraordinary communicative force, unmistakable examples of Mario Botta's sign and poetics; they are the representation of the work of Alfredo Marinoni, a true Master in pewter processing, with whom I have shared the entire Numa journey expressed with the material he works with unparalleled mastery. Tredicivasi is the increasingly fascinating continuation of the Numa journey and project».
Roberto Zani
Tredicivasi is a collection of large pewter vases, designed by Mario Botta with multiple arms as a “metaphor of the tree”. Thirteen table architectures whose geometries are very well expressed by pewter, an ancient material of great plastic strength. A material that Numa has brought back to the contemporary in recent years by entrusting its manufacture to Alfredo Marinoni, a master in the processing of pewter and which for these vases is cast in sheets and then finished by hand.

Material.
Pewter is an alloy composed of tin and small quantities of antimony and copper. Due to its ductility, it has been used since ancient times by man to create objects of common use. In the centuries closest to us, a percentage of lead was added to the tin, which was soon banned due to its toxicity.
The pewter used to make Numa objects is an alloy composed of 95% tin, and the absolute absence of lead makes it fully compliant with the EEC regulation EN-611/1.
Processing phases:
- The first operation related to the production cycle is the purchase of the raw material in loaves or sheets of pewter ready to be melted, or the purchase of loaves or sheets of tin, wires or bars of copper and antimony, which, melted in the appropriate melting furnace at a temperature of 250-300° C, give the pewter.
- The molten metal is poured manually to form pewter sheets of varying sizes. The sheets are bent and made to adhere to wooden or ceramic cores until they reach the desired shape.
- The various parts are then assembled through tin welding, until the vase is formed in its final shape.
- Polishing operations using brushes follow.
- Each single vase is finally stamped with the designer's signature, the Numa logo and its numbering.
NB The process of making these vases is done entirely by hand.
All the manufacturing phases are carried out by highly specialized workers, at the atelier of the master pewterer Alfredo Marinoni, Cellatica (BS).
